Follow-up Activties by European Development Institute in Collaboration with Koning Kevin vzw and Youth Center Leuven in Belgium!

Important Notice: Since these activities were held with children and teenagers and majority of the participants were minors. No activity photos or visuals are present due to privacy and GDPR compliance.

The activities we conducted were designed to engage and empower children and teenagers who are new to Belgium, particularly those with a refugee background. The overall goal was to introduce them to youth work in Belgium, which might not be well-known to them, and help them develop essential social skills for better integration and a sense of belonging. A total of 3 workshops were held on 29.03.2023 07.04.2023 and 09.04.2023!

The activities included the following:

Dodgeball: (29/03/2023) The approach for this activity was culturally conscious, emphasizing embracing diversity. It had 10 participants, a bit younger between 12-14 years old, who were once again from the same group as the previous activities. Through playing dodgeball together, they learned about teamwork, communication, and embracing differences in a fun and inclusive environment.

Percussion: (07/04/2023) This activity focused on collaborative learning circles to empower peers. It involved 12 participants from the same group as the previous activity, aged 12-18 years old. Through percussion, they engaged in a creative and rhythmic experience that encouraged teamwork and mutual support.

Clay Activity: (09/04/2023) The goal of this activity was to break the language barrier using creative solutions. Ten participants, aged 12-18 years old and new to Belgium, were involved in creating art with clay, allowing them to express themselves and communicate without relying solely on language. The overarching aim of these activities was to involve them and make them step up into daily life in Belgium, help them build social skills, foster inclusion, and offer them a space to connect with their peers in a creative and non-formal setting.
